The German Aid to Ukraine project drew attention to the use of German HK416 assault rifles by Ukrainian special forces, including soldiers of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. According to the latest official data, by April 2025 Germany had transferred 4,750 such rifles to Ukraine, after which it stopped publishing detailed information on military supplies. In particular, German rifles were seen with the special forces fighters "Arten", Bat 13, "Brotherhood", Triton and other GUR units, as well as with military personnel of the special operations forces and the military police. However, some units began to regularly demonstrate this weapon only in 2026, which researchers associate with the arrival of new rifle groups. The HK416 uses the standard 5.56mm NATO cartridge and is gas operated with a short stroke piston. Germany supplies Ukraine with several versions of this rifle, including versions structurally close to the latest HK416A8, adopted by the Bundeswehr under the designation G95.
