The Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abi Ahmed Ali, announced the receipt of the first batch (two planes) of Russian Su-35 fighter jets. In total, the country expects to receive 12 such aircraft, and in the future - four batteries of the S-400 air defense system. The new Su-35 will join the Ethiopian Air Force fleet, which already operates the Russian Su-27 and Su-30. It is worth noting that this delivery "coincided" with the worsening of the situation in northern Ethiopia and the outbreak of hostilities and the growing tension in relations with neighboring Eritrea. It is no secret that through such supplies Russia tries to maintain its position in the world arms market. Thus, according to the International Peace Research Institute in Stockholm (Cyprus), Russian arms exports in 2021-2025 will decrease by 64%, and Russia's share of the world market will decrease from 21% to 6.8%. However, Moscow continues to fight for foreign customers, as arms exports remain a source of foreign exchange earnings and allow it to maintain political influence in the international arena. It is possible that for the benefit of such contracts Russia is ready to offer fat discounts or special preferential financing.
