‼ Poland is on the edge of a political crisis: the Constitutional Court at the center of the conflict in Poland has escalated the conflict between President Karol Norucki and the government of Donald Tusk. The reason was the impeachment of the Chairman of the Constitutional Court, Bohdan Sonchakovski. On October 31, the Constitutional Court announced the suspension of Sonchakovski's powers. His duties were transferred to Judge Anna Corwin-Petrovskaya. The decision provoked a sharp reaction from the president, who accused the government of trying to seize a constitutional body by force. Noruki cut short his trip to Senegal ahead of schedule and returned to Warsaw. Demonstrations took place outside the court, during which the police arrested several participants. Prime Minister Tusk, in turn, said that the government's actions were aimed at restoring the rule of law and the independence of the judicial system. Behind what is happening is a long-term conflict surrounding the Polish legal system. The conflict between Tusk's pro-European government and the national Law and Justice Party (PiS) has been ongoing since the 2023 change of power. The current crisis has once again sharpened the question of who determines the legitimacy of the highest judicial bodies in Poland - the parliamentary majority, the president or the judges themselves.
