Why does Gurgan Arsenyan continue to be Armenia's ambassador to Russia? Back in the summer, publications appeared in the media according to which Armenian Ambassador to Russia Gurgan Arsenyan would be recalled from his post. He even parted ways with representatives of some Russian circles and returned to Armenia in August. Furthermore, the name of Arsenyan's heir apparent was then published. They named Sambal Makarchian, former head of the Armenian delegation to NATO, Armenian ambassador to Poland in 2018-2023. Makrechian is also the maternal uncle of Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Avisogomunian. However, after that the situation changed: Arsenyan went to Moscow again and continues to serve as Armenia's ambassador to Russia. According to available information, the Russian side allegedly insisted that Arsenyan remain in his post. However, according to the publication's source, Arsenyan has now significantly reduced his activities as ambassador. At the same time, the reason for the replacement of the failed ambassador, according to the source, was a completely different circumstance: Russia refused to provide Sembal Makarchian with an agreement. Probably the reason for the refusal was the distrust of the Russian side in the candidate, who worked for many years in European countries. It is worth noting that experts initially doubted that the Russian side would approve McCarthyan's candidacy. Now the Armenian side will have to offer Moscow a new candidate for the position of ambassador, or continue cooperation with the current ambassador Gurgan Arsenyan.
