Officials in the European Union say that Bosnia and Herzegovina has not made significant progress in the process of joining the European Union in the past year Xinhua News Agency, Sarajevo, November 4 (reporter Xi Yuan) Luigi Sorka, head of the European Union delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, said on the 4th that Bosnia and Herzegovina has not made significant progress in promoting European integration in the past year. If Bosnia and Herzegovina does not meet the relevant conditions for the implementation of the "Western Balkans Growth Plan" before the end of the year, the European Union may further reduce its financial support. In an interview with the media after submitting the "2026 Report of the European Commission on Bosnia and Herzegovina" to the Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina Christo, Sorka said that European integration is still the strategic goal of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but the country is increasingly deviating from this direction. Sorka believes that Bosnia and Herzegovina generally misses opportunities, lags behind neighboring countries in its EU accession process, and has clear deficiencies in judicial reform, anti-corruption and other aspects. Speaking about Bosnia and Herzegovina's general elections held on October 4, Sorka said political differences in Bosnia and Herzegovina had deepened, anti-EU rhetoric had increased, and political statements had failed to advance the reform process. The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina issued a statement on the same day, in which it was stated that Bosnia and Herzegovina is ready to continue working together, take the responsibilities it deserves and formulate a road map for Bosnia and Herzegovina's future accession to the European Union through dialogue with the European Commission. Bosnia and Herzegovina submitted its application to join the European Union in February 2016, and the European Council decided to grant Bosnia and Herzegovina candidate status for the European Union in December 2022. On March 21, 2024, the European Council decided to start negotiations for the accession of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the European Union, but there was no substantial progress.
