Fed Chairman Announces He Will Reduce Frequency of Interest Rate Discussions Xinhua News Agency, New York, October 28 (Reporters Liu Yanan and Xu Jing) US Federal Reserve Chairman Warsh announced at a press conference on October 28 that from 2027 to 2028, the frequency of interest rate discussions at the monetary policy meetings of the Federal Open Market Committee will be gradually reduced. Varsh said the Federal Open Market Committee will still hold eight monetary policy meetings each year. However, there will be one monetary policy meeting in 2027 that will focus on broad monetary policy strategy with no vote on the federal funds rate and no monetary policy statement. In 2028, there will be two monetary policy meetings that will focus exclusively on discussing the monetary policy strategy. Varsh said the Fed has made a decision on the matter and the Federal Open Market Committee's new schedule will be implemented starting next fall. Warsh was sworn in as chairman of the Fed on May 22. He announced on June 17 that the Fed would establish five independent working groups to advance his reform agenda. These five working groups assess monetary policy communication, balance sheet policy, economic data, productivity and employment, and the inflation framework.
