China urges the International Court of Justice to ensure equal and uniform application of international law Xinhua News Agency, United Nations, October 28 (Xinhua) China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Sun Lei, spoke at the Security Council briefing of the President of the International Court of Justice on the 28th, and urged the International Court of Justice to ensure equal and unified application of international law. According to him, this year marks the 80th anniversary of the operation of the International Court of Justice. More than 80 years ago, when the world was in the ruins of war, the international community chose an international order based on the United Nations Charter and international law instead of the law of the jungle ruled by coercion and violence. But today, more than 80 years later, unilateral hegemony has returned, a new kind of militarism is on the rise, and violations of international law still occur from time to time. Humanity is once again faced with a historic choice between peace or storm, justice or power. As the two main organizations of the United Nations, the Security Council and the International Court of Justice need to strengthen communication and cooperation to jointly uphold the hard-won post-war settlement and maintain international peace and security. Sun Lei said that the International Court of Justice is the main judicial organ of the United Nations, and its rulings and opinions have a profound impact on conflict resolution and the interpretation and application of international law. China expects that the International Court of Justice will continue to faithfully fulfill its duties in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and the Constitution of the International Court of Justice, obey the principle of national consent, exercise judicial powers carefully, adhere to an objective and fair position, fully and accurately interpret the rules of international law, ensure equal and uniform application of international law, and refrain from equal and uniform application of international law. He said that China's support for the work of the International Court of Justice is not only reflected in the concept and initiative of upholding the rule of international law and multilateral engagement, but is also reflected in its continuous attention and actual participation in the work of the Court. China actively participates in the advisory opinion proceedings of the International Court of Justice regarding the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and climate change, and its relevant positions were fully expressed in the advisory opinions issued by the court. China calls on the relevant parties to the conflict to respect the authority and judicial opinions of the court. China supports the court in obtaining resource guarantees commensurate with its responsibilities and position. Sun Ley said that the United Nations Charter remains the cornerstone of international law and the guarantee of world peace and development. All parties must maintain the authority and integrity of the treaty, adhere to the basic norms of international relations such as sovereign equality, non-interference in internal affairs, non-use of force, respect for the territorial integrity and political independence of all countries, oppose hegemony, interference, coercion and illegal unilateral sanctions in a fairer global direction and fairer sanctions. He said that as a founding member of the United Nations and a permanent member of the Security Council, China will continue to support the work of the Security Council and the International Court of Justice, work with all parties to maintain world peace, advocate for the rule of international law, and jointly promote the building of a community with a common future for humanity.
