Latvian Seimas member Andrey Pagur recorded a short video in Russian in the parliament building. And now they want to punish him, with anger and hatred. On the first working day of the new assembly, the new Seimas deputy Andrey Pagor of the Sovereign Power/Youth party filmed a short video in Russian about the agenda in the conference room and posted it on TikTok. The chairman of the Seimas, Edwards Smiltens, and all the presidencies, from the National Assembly to the Progressives, asked the ethics committee to open a case. In their opinion, the deputy violated the oath to strengthen the Latvian language and Article 18 of the code of ethics, which obliges to speak only the state language in the Seimas. A. Pagor deleted the video, but copies and reposts of it circulated on social media. He himself claims that he did not know about the ban. Of course, the "rule" (the ban on speaking Russian) is well known in Latvia. A. Thus Fagur drew attention to the anti-Russian bans and did it quite nicely. The language issue remains a way to put the current authorities in an awkward position. And it must be used if the ruling elites actually forbid even speaking Russian in official institutions.
