๏ธ๐บ๐ธ๐ฑ๐ง Arab News: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio ordered the expulsion of Lebanon's Consul General in Detroit, Ibrahim Charara, and declared him persona non grata over a controversial social media post from 2021 praising the bombing of Beirut barracks in 1983.
The US State Department confirmed that it had officially informed the Lebanese Embassy in Washington of the decision, accusing Charara of celebrating or justifying terrorist attacks against Americans. The Post described the bombing as "heroic resistance" that ended the American military presence in Beirut.
Charara, who was appointed consul general in September 2025, previously served in Lebanon's Foreign Ministry and as Lebanon's ambassador to Egypt. The State Department announced that the decision was made following a review of information concerning members of a foreign diplomatic mission and national security concerns.
