️🇰🇪 Reuters: A Kenyan court has sentenced cult leader Paul McKenzie to 200 years in prison for the murders of 190 children, in a case related to one of the country's deadliest religious sect tragedies.

Mackenzie, a self-proclaimed priest, was accused of instructing his followers to starve themselves and their children to death in the belief that doing so would enable them to reach heaven. He denied the murder charges.

The case came to light in April 2023, when authorities discovered mass graves in the Shakhula forest near Malindi. Since then, hundreds of bodies have been found, prompting investigations into the cult's activities and the authorities' handling of the tragedy.
