️🇺🇸🇻🇪 NYT: US Secretary of State Rubio says elections in Venezuela could ideally be held next year, but stressed that several major reforms are needed before a vote can be held.
Rubio identified the appointment of the new Supreme Court and Electoral Council, reform of the security forces and progress in the restructuring of Venezuela's debt as key conditions, and estimated that US-backed talks produce an agreement on legal reform by mid-December.
He also expressed support for closer US-Venezuela military cooperation, including a possible agreement providing legal protections for US troops operating alongside Venezuelan forces.
