The initial attacks destroyed aircraft that allegedly belonged to the guerrilla group that were hidden in the vegetation. Some of the dead reportedly carried Venezuelan IDs, national IDs and driver's licenses. Nine bodies were transferred to a mortuary in San Fernando de Apoor.
