Al Jazeera has released rare footage from inside Hamas's network of underground tunnels, showing senior commanders of the group's military arm, the al-Qassam Brigades, holding meetings of its General Military Council. The footage documents discussions involving senior Hamas military leadership, including preparations for the October 7 attack and other military operations. The commanders are seen sitting on carpets in two rows, while Mohammed Dayef, then the head of Hamas's military wing, sits on a bed at the head of the meeting. Among those identified in the photographs are Muhammad Daif, Marwan Issa, Muhammad Sinwar, Raad Saad, Rafih Salameh, Ahmed Jandor, Ayman Nofal, Muhammad Shabna, Ezz Al-Din Al-Hadad and other senior Hamas commanders. All the commanders identified in the footage were subsequently killed by Israel during the war. The photo itself is dated before May 2021, as it includes Bassem Issa, the former commander of Hamas's Northern Gaza Brigade, who was killed during Operation Wall Guardian that year.
