️🇮🇶 Amwaj.media: Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi fired the head of the Iraqi National Intelligence Service, Hamid al-Shatri, leaving one of the most sensitive security positions in the country without a permanent commander. According to reports, al-Zaidi is running the service himself in the meantime.
The dismissals came just before al-Zaidi's visit to Damascus, the first by an Iraqi prime minister since the fall of Bashar al-Assad in December 2024.
Shatri led Baghdad's engagement with Syria's new leadership, and commentators questioned the timing.
Competing accounts suggest the job is contested within the Shia coordination framework, with some factions reportedly favoring Border Ports Authority chief Omar al-Wali, who is considered acceptable to Iran.
