Binance's initial investigation suggests that hackers used a compromised laptop belonging to a DevOps engineer to gain access to an internal service and authorize unauthorized withdrawals.
About $3 billion in assets have been frozen through cooperation with blockchain partners, while Binance says it will cover all losses using company funds and its SAFU hedge fund.
The exchange insists that customers' funds will remain safe and has temporarily suspended deposits and withdrawals.
