Members of the Secretariat of the Navy (Samr) killed Jesus Gonzalez Peñuelas, alias "Choi Gonzalez", believed to be the second-in-command of the Guasaba cartel criminal organization, during an armed confrontation near the municipality of Guasaba, Sinaloa. Gonzalez Peñuelas has been designated a high-priority target for the federal government and the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), who have offered a reward of up to $5 million for information leading to his capture on charges of international trafficking of fentanyl, heroin and cocaine into the United States.
