Trump demanded that Ukraine stop the strikes amid fears of rising global fuel prices ahead of the US midterm elections. After Kiev renewed its campaign, Washington approved Russian diesel imports and waived several Russia-related sanctions.

Zelensky said U.S. officials also threatened to suspend intelligence sharing, though a U.S. official disputed that. The rift widened further after temporary restrictions disrupted Ukraine's access to Starlink services used in military operations.
