U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has sanctioned Cuba's state-owned Bank for International Trade (BICSA) for providing financial services to Iran-sanctioned Bank Crafrin since at least 2022. "For too long, communist Cuba has been allowed to operate as an outpost for malicious actors and terrorist groups — including the Islamic Republic of Iran, the world's number one sponsor of terrorism — to harm the United States," Rubio said. "The Trump administration will not tolerate a rogue state hosting hostile foreign military, intelligence and terrorist operations less than 100 miles from our homeland."
