The Council of the European Union in its new three-year support mission in Lebanon, EUSM Lebanon: "The mission will strengthen the Lebanese army and internal security forces, support territorial control, border and maritime security and stability in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701. Its military component will advise and train the army in border surveillance, intelligence and counter-smuggling. Its civilian component will support the ISF in cybercrime and anti-smuggling, alongside port security, including at the port of Beirut. Operational planning will continue prior to deployment. A separate council resolution will officially begin the task after planning is complete."
