Politico: NATO has announced that 17 allies will take part in its annual Etan Noon nuclear exercise in Italy from October 13 to 23, in an attempt to reassure Russia that the exercise does not pose a threat amid rising tensions. The exercise follows a tense exchange of letters between Moscow and NATO after the alliance exercises near Russia's Kaliningrad enclave in August. NATO's director of nuclear policy, Nasima Barros, said the exercise was expected and intended to signal that Russia had no reason to miscalculate. The exercise would include dual-capable aircraft and ground forces but no live nuclear weapons.
