๐ฑ๐ง Prime Minister of Lebanon, Nawaf Salam, acknowledged the growing economic pressure on households in Lebanon, and warned that rising oil prices and Lebanon's dependence on imports have increased the cost of living. He pledged more strict monitoring of traders, importers and private generator owners to prevent price exploitation.
Salam announced that the draft budget for 2027 gives priority to salary adjustments for public employees, which is supported by improving tax collection. However, he emphasized that the government will not finance expenses through loans or advances from the treasury, and warned against a repeated policy that would cost Lebanese citizens their savings and deposits.
The government also proposed to increase by 16% the budget of the Ministry of Health to expand the coverage of health services, alongside plans to improve public transportation and provide loans for home ownership. Salam emphasized that the reforms must maintain financial stability, and declared:
I won't tell you everything will change overnight, but we certainly won't accept the status quo.
