Hammam al-Hamami reportedly told investigators that he abandoned the July plan because he cared about the crew member. It is suspected that he was looking for a job with airlines that operate routes to Israel and intended to disable the captain's ability before crashing the plane into a destination, potentially Israel.

Al-Hamami, an Omani national, was reportedly banned from flying by Oman Air due to concerns about extremist views. He was later hired by FlyDubai, which allegedly did not consult the Omani authorities before hiring him.
