China sent Hobbs two letters urging her to oppose the office, but Arizona continued the opening. Beijing reiterated its opposition to official interactions between Taiwan and the US governments.

The office will focus on semiconductor technology and cooperation as Taiwan's economic presence in Arizona expands alongside major investments by TSMC.
