Officials suspect that the operation involved the Revolutionary Guards or another Iranian military institution that would want to target RAF Fairford, which was used by American bombers during attacks on Iran.

Five British men and a dual British-Iranian national were arrested but later released on bail. Fuel was found in three vans, but no improvised explosive device was found. Iran denies any involvement.
