Al-Amudi has been described as "Sinwar's successor" due to his status as the most senior political figure of Hamas in the Gaza Strip today.

The strike targeted an apartment on the first floor in the Rimel neighborhood in Gaza City. According to local reports, five people were killed, but there was no confirmation that al-Amudi was among them.

Israeli officials have not yet confirmed whether the assassination attempt was successful.
