The aircraft landed at the Chihhang Air Base in Taitung after traveling via Hawaii and Guam. Taiwan's Defense Minister said additional planes will arrive before the end of the year.

The $8 billion deal was approved in 2019 and will expand Taiwan's F-16 fleet to more than 200 aircraft, bolstering its air defense amid continued Chinese military pressure.
