According to reports, at least 93 clandestine trafficking routes are under observation in Venezuelan territory, compared to about 15 monitored sites in early 2026, when ELN camps may have approached populated areas in the states of Zulia and Tachira.

Monitoring focuses on areas along the Colombia-Venezuela border and corridors connecting Zulia, Lake Marcaibo, La Guajira and Norte de Santander, hence the US security flash: for Norte de Santander.
