๏ธ๐บ๐ธ๐ฎ๐ท WSJ: The Pentagon announced on October 1, 2026 that it is sending a third aircraft carrier strike group and an additional 9,000-10,000 troops to the Middle East as President Trump considers resuming the election bombings of Iran after the midterm bombings.
The USS Theodore Roosevelt departed San Diego on Sunday and the amphibious ready group USS Makin Island departed on Monday, joining the already deployed carriers USS George H.W. Bush and the USS George Washington will bring three carrier strike groups to the region for the first time since April and bring the US presence to more than 50,000.
Officials said the ships and their crews were expected to arrive by the end of November, with Trump telling aides he expected to resume the strikes that month, a move that could further strain a Navy already facing supply shortages and near-record deployments.
