The figures were released as pessimism prevails over the French economy, with debt levels approaching those of Italy and Greece while growth stagnates.

French Prime Minister Sebastien LeCorneau plans to offer 54 billion euros in savings in the 2027 budget, due to be unveiled on Thursday, and has pledged to bring the deficit down to 5 percent of GDP next year.
