The flight reportedly attempted to reach Tajikistan via an alternate route through Azerbaijan, but was again denied permission by Tajik authorities.

The incident comes after the US Treasury Department warned against sanctioning Iranian planes to land at foreign airports.

According to the reports, the pilot told the passengers when they were already in the air: "We're going home. We didn't get permission to land."
