Diesel prices in the US reached a record high of $6.51 per gallon, while the US exports about 1.5 million barrels of diesel per day. Analysts warn that an export ban could force refineries to cut production, potentially reducing the supply of gasoline as well as diesel and causing global prices to rise.

The American Petroleum Institute and other industry groups oppose an export ban, arguing that it would reduce U.S. fuel production rather than increase supplies.
