Major General Diodeto Abgenara, the head of the Italian UNIFIL, told Reuters on September 19 that the force is already coordinating with the UN country team and the Lebanese army to transfer jobs - many currently in Israeli-controlled areas - and to escort humanitarian aid to Christian towns amid the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah that began in March.

He warned that the transition would be "very difficult," noting that the Israeli demolitions near Mansouri have continued since June despite the cease-fire and that without a new mandate from the Security Council, the UN presence will cease at the end of the year, a loss he called "a great honor" to avoid.
