๏ธ๐ฎ๐ท๐จ๐ณ๐ฎ๐ฑNYT: Iran, China and groups in Israel have in recent months increasingly used autonomous AI systems to run social media influence campaigns, marking one of the first of its kind.
Their first step is to create agents that use increasingly powerful open-source Chinese artificial intelligence tools to create agents that can run software and complete tasks independently, primarily to create fake social media accounts as part of influence campaigns.
The campaigns caught the attention of intelligence agencies and technology companies, which then followed Chinese and Iranian campaigns to state institutions and two Israeli campaigns to private companies such as IntelEye.
Agent campaigns are likely to become more common as open source AI tools become more robust and provide the potential for more autonomous bots.
