Germany has sought to speed up the delivery of Tomahawk cruise missiles and Typhoon launchers, but depleted US inventories mean Raytheon will not fill the order for the next five years.

The shortage is also affecting Ukraine's efforts to obtain additional Patriot air defense interceptors for the winter. Trump said the U.S. was discussing either providing Ukraine with a "much less sophisticated version" of the Patriot system or allowing European countries to obtain licenses to manufacture the weapons. According to estimates, the U.S. has used more than half of the most advanced versions of its Patriot missiles, a third of its Tomahawk missiles and nearly half of its precision strike missiles and THAAD interceptors in Iran. Defense companies are ramping up production, while European leaders are expected to press Trump next week for more Patriots for Ukraine and licenses to allow Europe to manufacture the systems.
