️🇬🇧🇮🇱 The Spectator: Britain's Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband, according to reports, brought forward the sanctions against Israel despite warnings from MI6 that the move could harm intelligence sharing and Britain's security relations in the Middle East.
According to reports, MI6, the British ambassador to Israel and National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell warned against imposing the measures before the Israeli elections in October, fearing that they might strengthen Benjamin Netanyahu politically and endanger Israeli intelligence shared with Britain and the Gulf states.
Israel subsequently closed the British consulate in East Jerusalem, halted training in the UK for Palestinian security forces and imposed travel bans on 11 British MPs.
