He added that Israel will remain in southern Lebanon until the security situation changes, and stated that it will not withdraw as long as what it describes as the threat of Hezbollah continues. He also said that Lebanon is expected to declare southern Lebanon free of Hezbollah fighters and for the Lebanese army to dismantle organizations that are not under the control of the government. Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir said separately that Israel remains determined to remove Hezbollah's military presence south of Litani and prevent the group from rebuilding its capabilities or infrastructure there, but any agreement with the Lebanese government will require a significant improvement in the effectiveness of the Lebanese army on the ground.
