️🇮🇱️🇮🇶 Benjamin (Ben) Hasin, an Israeli citizen born in Iraqi Kurdistan, was released today after over 11 years in prison, during which he was sentenced to death by hanging.

Hossein returned to Kurdistan in 2014 to visit family and joined the Kurdish Peshmerga forces fighting ISIS. In 2015, during a taxi ride, the driver heard him speaking Hebrew and threatened to hand him over to ISIS.

A confrontation ensued, the driver was shot and later died. Hossein was arrested and sentenced to death in 2020.

In November 2025, a solha (reconciliation) was reached with the driver's family, who received approximately $250,000 in compensation raised through donations and granted forgiveness. The death sentence was overturned, and he was released today following this agreement. Hossein is expected to return to Israel in the coming days.
