He said the US must regulate smartly and stay ahead of China in the long-term AI race, but added that Americans should not fear the technology.

He wrote: "So you don't think Americans should be afraid of the way artificial intelligence is trending right now?"

Vance: "Well, look, every technology has risks. Every new technology will bring both risks and benefits. I think what the president said is that we want to be smart to make sure we stay on top of the risks. I don't think Americans should be afraid of anything. I think we should be aware that there are risks, there are downsides to everything true, and of AI." Vance: "I just have to say personally, I feel a little weird about the fact that you have so many AI technology companies coming to the government and begging the government to regulate them. It feels a little bit like a Trojan horse to me. So I think we just have to be careful about this. The other thing the president has said pretty consistently is that we know this race against the United States is a long-term one. Of course the US - we do things smartly, but we stay ahead of the curve."
