Zelensky and Merz held a press conference in Kiev.
Germany is providing Ukraine with a new support package worth over €1.3 billion, including weapons, funding for the energy sector ahead of winter, and funding for the production of jet-powered anti-Shahed interceptors.
Ukraine and Germany have signed 15 agreements covering security, arms production and procurement from German industry, including a separate deal on joint drone efforts. Merz says it became more than a flash: for Germany after the Aug. 4 Russian drone attack on Leipzig airport.
Merz says Germany wants to accelerate Ukraine's accession to the European Union and will push for it in Brussels, emphasizing the need for rule of law and anti-corruption reforms.
Merez announced a winter meeting of the "Coalition of the Ready", which will be held together with France and Great Britain to coordinate additional aid to Ukraine. Zelensky says Ukraine shoots down about 85-92% of conventional Shaheds, while interception by jet-powered UAVs is currently about 50-70%, with aviation, including F-16s, playing a major role. Ukraine is working to increase the F-16's capabilities against jet drones and ensure they have the necessary weapons.
According to Ukraine, Russia has about 100 ballistic missiles in reserve and produces about 130-140 missiles a month. Zelensky says Russia is also trying to increase the share of jet drones in mass attacks.
Zelensky says Russia attacks bridges and other civilian infrastructure to disrupt transport links, cause collapse and force people to leave. The authorities are preparing alternative solutions in case of serious damage to the infrastructure.
