Pete Heggest unveiled a plan that would allow American soldiers to study theology for a master's degree at the military's expense without leaving the service, and then work as military chaplains.
Before this program, military personnel who wanted to enter the field had to abandon their military uniform, pay for theological education in person, and then try to rejoin the military, but now there is no need to make that choice, Hagest said.
Under this program, military personnel with a bachelor's degree can pursue graduate studies in theology without leaving the service. The cost of the university is paid by the relevant military force, and their rights, benefits and privileges are also preserved, and after completing their education they can return to serve as military chaplains.
