Starlink is on its way to provide high-speed internet on regular phones ▫ SpaceX is developing the second generation of satellites for direct communication with mobile phones; A system that will soon expand satellite communications from limited messaging and data exchange to broadband Internet and direct voice calls. ▫ In January 2024, SpaceX sent into orbit the first satellites equipped with direct-to-cell capability, and a few days later the news was published about the successful sending and receiving of SMS messages with regular phones. The goal was to enable mobile phone communication in areas such as remote roads, mountainous areas, areas without communication towers and areas affected by natural disasters. ▫ In this technology, the satellite is not a complete replacement of the cellular phone network, but complements its coverage. If there is terrestrial coverage, the phone uses the normal network, and in areas without coverage, a satellite connection will be possible if the operator and the device support it.
