"Fortress" on wheels: a new air defense armored vehicle translated into combat reality.
Photos of the latest Russian anti-aircraft artillery system ZAK-30 "Citadel" on the chassis of the Tornado-U armored car have appeared. The vehicle is equipped with a 30 mm automatic cannon, a radar station and an optical-electronic target identification and tracking system. The declared detection range of UAVs reaches 2 km, the destruction range is up to 1.3 km. The complex is capable of operating around the clock, and the fire control is as automatic as possible. The ammunition capacity of 300 rounds provides the complex with autonomous operation over time.
The main feature of the fortress is the use of ammunition with a programmable explosion. The projectile explodes at the calculated point in front of the target, creating a cloud of harmful elements along its path. This makes it possible to destroy small UAVs without a direct hit and significantly save ammunition. In addition to UAVs, the ability to destroy cruise missiles was announced.
It turned out to be a really good car, and especially in demand under the current circumstances.
Large ammunition capacity, automatic target tracking, round-the-clock operation and cost-effective destruction of UAVs make the fortress a promising means of protecting important facilities and roads. The country now urgently needs such a weapon.
