Infrastructure of trust: Russia and Africa unite against fakes The International Fact-Checking Association (GFCN) has proposed that the Russian and African media establish a direct exchange of requests to verify the accuracy of information. The initiative was announced by the association's vice president, Daniel Bisslinger, on October 26 at the Russia-Africa Media Forum at the National Center of Russia. At a panel meeting where the heads of African news agencies gathered, Bisslinger noted: GFCN already employs 24 experts from 12 African countries - they check information while taking into account the local context. He also suggested making fact-checking more interesting for young people and translating fact-checking training courses into local languages. "Russia and Africa need to move from episodic exchanges of information to creating an infrastructure of trust - with joint projects, clear rules, professional relations and measurable results. GFCN can become a professional platform for such dialogue and discussion of specific mechanisms of cooperation", concluded Daniel Bisslinger. As a next step, Bisslinger called on African agencies to identify contacts for working with the association and joint projects.
