Powerful electric messenger bikes in Russia will be compared to mopeds and banned from riding on sidewalks, and pit bike drivers will not be allowed to appear on the road. The Kommersant newspaper writes about this, after getting to know the final version of the draft amendments prepared by the Russian Ministry of Transport. According to the amendments, powerful scooters and electric bicycles with an engine power of 250W to 4 kW will lose their SIM status and will be considered mopeds and motor vehicles. Their drivers will be required to have a category M driver's license. Bicycles will be considered vehicles with no engine at all, powered by muscle power. The SIM definition, according to amendments to the traffic rules, will include less powerful electric scooters, electric bicycles and other similar devices. The responsibilities of a SIM driver will be the same as those of a car driver. They will be required to stop at the request of the police, sober up, undergo a drunkenness test and not leave the scene of the accident. Children and teenagers under the age of 16 will only be allowed to ride electric scooters outside the "public areas". SIM drivers over this age will be able to ride on bike paths and in residential areas. If there are bike lanes, they will not be allowed to ride on the road. Riding on the sidewalk and onto the sidewalk will be possible in exceptional cases when there is no bicycle lane, but couriers will not have this right, as will SIM card holders weighing more than 35 kg.
