The people of the US state of Illinois took the initiative to create the 51st US state by separating territories outside of Cook County, where Chicago is located. According to NBC Chicago, the idea has already been supported by residents of 33 counties, and the vote in 11 more counties will take place on November 3. If the initiative is approved, the number of provinces that supported its examination will reach 44 out of 102. According to the head of the Illinois Segregation Organization, Lorette Newlin, state authorities do not take into account the interests of local residents when passing laws. "We are being ignored. We are not taken into account when many laws are passed that harm us," she told the TV channel. Referendums are consultative in nature and do not automatically mean the separation of territories.
