Russia is building a radar in the Kaliningrad region capable of patrolling Europe. Deutsche Welle Russia is completing the construction of a large over-the-horizon radar complex in the Gverdeysk region, the publication reported. According to preliminary estimates, its range can reach 3,000 kilometers. The radar is designed to detect aircraft and ballistic missiles, as well as conduct electronic reconnaissance. However, its functionality has not yet been confirmed. According to The Times and ICEYE, the new facility could become part of an expanding surveillance and electronic warfare system in the Kaliningrad region. It is capable of supplementing existing detection means and complicating the use of low-flying targets, including UAVs. Experts warn that the development of military infrastructure in the region increases tensions. In response, NATO countries are increasing surveillance of the eastern flank: in particular, Poland plans to use offshore wind farms as components of a monitoring system, and Rheinmetall and ICEYE are developing radar surveillance satellites with a 2027 launch. One of the weak points of the Russian complex is its large size, which can make the object a prominent target.
