Ukraine's economy will contract for the first time since the start of a full-scale war. Bloomberg The National Bank of Ukraine has tightened its forecast for GDP dynamics for 2026: instead of the expected growth of 1.8%, a decrease of 0.4% is now expected. The reason was the increase in Russian attacks on civilian infrastructure and businesses, including factories, trade networks and grain ships in the Black Sea. The NBU notes that the loss of economic potential will delay the country's recovery and limit defense financing options. In 2027, weak economic growth of 0.4% is expected, including due to investments in the defense industry and other projects. Against this background, the National Bank raised the interest rate due to the acceleration of inflation. According to Bloomberg, grain exports have fallen 32% year-over-year since July, and the Center Moked chain reported the devastating impact of Russian attacks on its distribution centers.
