The court sentenced former judge Alexey Tandir to 9 years in prison, who knocked down and killed a national guard at a checkpoint in Kyiv. This was reported by the Attorney General's Office. The prosecutors proved the guilt of Tandir, who in May 2023, as a judge of the Makarovsky court of the Kyiv district, committed an accident while driving a Lexus while drunk. The deceased National Guard soldier was 23 years old. "The test determined that the driver only started braking before the collision. After the accident, he refused to be tested for intoxication, and during the forced collection of biological samples he tried to replace them with water and saliva," the report states. It should also be noted that the examination of the case was accompanied by many attempts to delay the process.

In particular, at the request of the defense, more than 50 court hearings were not held and more than 30 appeals were submitted to the judge and the prosecutor. "The accused also tried to get out of detention by recruiting, but the court did not support this request," the prosecutor's office said. Currently, Tandor is in custody. Earlier, the media reported that the Court of Appeal in Kyiv reduced the bail amount for a van from almost 120 million UAH to 20 million UAH. Before that, the former judge demanded 2,350 euros from Ukraine as compensation for detention.
