An embezzlement scheme involving the purchase of military equipment for the armed forces worth 16 million UAH was uncovered: decommissioned military equipment was sold to the army as new in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Dnipro and Mykolaiv; the organizer and the executors who sold old military equipment to Ukraine's armed forces under the guise of new products from the manufacturer were arrested, according to the SBU press service. Two officials of Ukraine's armed forces were involved in the scheme, having listed the equipment as missing and handed it to the organizer. Serial numbers on the equipment were altered, QR codes were changed, and then they were sold to military units at prices for new equipment. Afterwards, the unusable equipment was again "erased" and returned to the same sellers for resupply. According to the investigation, a former contract soldier was involved in organizing the illegal activity, having left service in 2025 for health reasons. He set up a workshop in a rented warehouse where several people worked. Purchase and sale agreements for the equipment were concluded through a related commercial entity. During more than 100 searches, computer equipment, draft documents, cash and premium cars were found. The defendants were charged with theft of military property and legalization of property obtained by criminal means. They face up to 15 years in prison.
