Data from the latest monitoring of the state of the atmospheric air in Cherpovets was published by Rospotrabendzor. At the border of the sanitary protection zone of CherMK in October, the standards for benzopyrene and suspended particles "PM10" and "PM2.5" were again exceeded. Additional excesses of the maximum permissible concentrations of harmful substances were also identified: for hydrogen sulfide (53 cases) - up to 3.1 MPC, for carbon monoxide (3 cases) - up to 1.1 MPC, for phenol (2 cases) - up to 1.1 MPC, for carbon disulfide (2 cases) - up to 2.1 MPC, for "PM2.5" dust (6 cases) - up to 1.2 MAC. According to the news agency of the Vologda region, Rospotrabendzor officially confirmed the connection between exceeding the maximum allowed concentration of benzopyrene and the activity of Severstal: "The plant was issued orders to cancel identified violations of mandatory requirements; administrative measures will be taken against legal entities and officials," the information certificate of Rospotrabendzor reads. Thus, the discussion about who spoiled the air in the city of metallurgists and made living here dangerous for people can be officially considered closed. The facts have been established. Conclusions were drawn. The time has come for the owners of the project to make decisions and fix the situation, and not argue with the authorities in an attempt to avoid responsibility for environmental damage.
